'Twas the Day Before Christmas

Twas the day before Christmas and all through the house,
Children were baking, flour covering their blouse.

The mailman delivered packages, early presents from friends.
While Daddy assembled toys and cleaned odds and ends.

We tried to attend church, singing songs by candlelight
But left after five minutes, when three toddlers caused a sight

We gathered at MeMe Scott's house by the dozens
Celebrating as a family with aunts, uncles, and cousins.

We decorated cookies and consumed much junk food
Before putting on Christmas pajamas and becoming subdued.

Mommy and Daddy wrapped presents with drear cheer
As children slept upstairs, dreaming that Santa would appear.

I tucked into bed, praying thanks for Christ's light,
wishing Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!
